Our last day in Salen before we head south to Bunessan tomorrow. Harry was to finish of the road to Tobermory whilst Jeff and I tried to do as much of the central belt of the island as possible. Once again we were woken to delightful blue skies and another hot day was promised.
Most of the houses on the islands, particularly those out of the main villages are holiday lets, infact it is estimated that around 50% of the island do not live here, particularly in the summer! So, emphasis this week has been put on the indigenous folk who don't get an opportunity to be called on often at home.
Nearing lunchtime we had travelled a good 20 miles calling on the farms we past and we reached the beach where we infamously went swimming on Tuesday. I say infamously because one chap who lives nearby the beach was delighted to meet us, he thought us mad after watching us whilst gardening, but had much respect at the same time for our madness!
We did not get back home until three, so grabbed some cheese and biscuits to see us through the afternoon until seven o'clock for when we had a table booked at the well reviewed Mediterranean restaurant across the road. A fantastic dinner awaited us there, fresh mussels, veal, steak and pavilova or tiramisu as sweet, all accompanied by some rich Italian wine, motto bene! A slight miss heart beat at the bill, but hay how true was King Solomon when he said there was nothing better but to eat and drink and to enjoy our hard work!
Tomorrow we move out, and head south to the sandy warm beaches where we are staying two nights at the Argyll Arms hotel in Bunessan before crossing to Iona next week! So here we go!
