Go west, where the grass is green, was the cry this morning! Jeff and I were to head towards Ulva, whilst Harry cycled northwards towards, in theory tobermory, but then again we all know harry well enough to have expected him to come back covered in snow with polarbear fur around his neck.
Some of the views along the atlantic coast are absolutely breathtaking, tall mountains sloping down with edges as flat as pyramids into the sea, littered artisticly with islands. The people living overlooking this beauty were all to carm to not be glad to chat, almost everybody was more than willing to share a few minutes and accept bible literature. We even met an annie lennox double at one point!
The perfectly blue skies really made the day, and the temperatures were always hovering around the 20C mark, which in the unpoluted air in these northern climates feel much warmer.
Lunch today was on the island of ulva, one of the larger islands in the chain coming out of the sea lochs of mull's west coast. To cross you need to summon one of the 10 people who live on the island to cross over in a tiny motor boat, we shared our boat with three french girls travelling around the island with one middle aged male tour guide, no doubt one of lives harder jobs!
Once on the other side we went to the little tea room called the 'boathouse' run by the daughter and husband of the islands owners. Wonderful views of the fishing vessels coming in and out with our lunch!
Ulva itself had once had been populated by nearly 500 people, but during the highland clearances the numbers were cut dramatically and even today sad remains of many crofting houses can be seen around the island innocently preserved.
After lunch we continued north again, watching waterfalls crashing down into the sea, it is really scenery you cant right home about, but do see the pictures and video because it is incredible!
This evening we met up again with harry, who had an equally succesful day in the north east, even being served a cup of tea and kickat by one admirer! Sadly, if that is how to view it, we were unable to cross back over to the mainland for Oban's meeting tonight, so the three of us had to improvise by doing the meeting ourselves in our flat, which we converted as much as possible into mulls own little kingdom hall! (well we moved the TV out the lounge!)
After much spiritual food, we are now ready to hit the hay after a very enjoyable day out on the work. The north of the island is now mostly covered, so tomorrow we are beginning our work in the south of the island with the warm sandy beaches!
