We had to be down at railay west beach for 9.00am to catch a ferry to Kho Phi Phi. We arrived and got told the boat was going to be late. So Lucy went over to Railay east bay to find us some breakfast. She took her time.... Peter wondered at one point whether he was going Ko Phi Phi on his own! She finally appeared with some sandwiches around 5minutes before we left. We had to go into the sea to climb aboard a longtail boat, which then took us to the ferry which was further out to sea. We clambered aboard the ferry with our backpacks from the rocking longtail boat. Hard work...
The ferry took around 2 hours in beaming hot sunshine. We finally arrived at Koh Phi Phi's bay, people everywhere. Tourists.com! We also had to pay 20baht each to enter (apparently to help keep the island clean). Next job was find a room!!! This was tricky, as the island is very expensive to stay on and we're not made of money. After shopping around quite a few places, we finally came across some where which we could afford.... still expensive compared to what we'd been paying in the rest of south east asia. Anyways we had a bed :)
That afternoon we had a walk around and purchased some sun cream and Lucy got a new dress. We were going to go have a walk upto a viewpoint but the heavens opened.... and we mean they opened, it chucked it down well hard for a few hours. We had earlier dropped some laundry off at a place a the otherside of town. That night Peter went out in his poncho and collected the laundry. He came back and said the streets were flooded and everyone was soaking (them who didn't have ponchos or umbrellas). We finally ventured out and ate at a nice little restaurant, mmm pizza! The rain had stopped, so we went to a reggae bar who had a muay thai boxing ring. People from the crowd could go up and fight other people from the crowd. Was quite funny to watch at times. A girl went up at one point so they needed another girl to go up. They paraded her round the ring trying to get a girl to fight her.... no one accepted. Lucy was very close to though.... "she's got one of those faces i'd love to slap" HAHA. We were having a good night so we stayed out and went a couple more bars before a beach party.
The following day was a lazy day without doubt. Just chilled out and ate abit. In the evening we went to rooftop bar and watched inbetweeners the movie on a big screen.
Our next day on Koh Phi Phi we were abit more active. We went on a half day trip to Koh Phi Phi Leh.... We were staying on Koh Phi Phi Don. Koh Phi Phi Leh is an uninhabited island. It is also where the 2000 film 'the beach' was filmed. The trip was by longtail boat, it included swimming in amazing turquoise waters surrounded by limestone cliffs, abit of snorkelling at maya bay, followed by 1 and a half hours on maya beach where 'the beach' was controversially filmed. It would be an amazing place to be if there wasn't anyone else around, unfortunately its a big tourist attraction. Heading back to Koh Phi Phi Don we visited monkey beach where we watched a monkey enjoying a tube of of pringles original!
Once back on Koh Phi Phi Don we went in a sports bar for a couple of ice cold beers and some healthy food... a plate of cheesy chips, beans and strips of bacon!!! Amazing though :)
Our last evening on Phi Phi we went out to a restaurant and both enjoyed lasagne and a couple of beers.
Phi Phi is stunning in parts.... unfortunately its very touristy in high season when we were there.
Next day we caught a ferry back to the mainland. We stayed a night in Krabi, basically just a chilled out evening before a long day travelling to Malaysia the next day.
