A quick 1hr 30mins from Koh Pha-ngan on the boat arriving at Big Budda Bay. We promptly jumped into a songtaew and told the driver we wanted to go to Lamai.. not actually knowing how long it would take. 30 minutes further down the road Lucy shouted Beer beach hut and pressed the button to stop the songtaew.. which was the place we were going to try and get a room. After looking at the rooms, they weren't much for the price so we decided to look next door at New hut, which had huts on the beach for the same price.. a lot nicer. The huts were very basic.. a bit like a garden shed with a mattress in really. After dropping our bags we decided to go for a walk, through Lamai centre and onto what are called 'The Grandmother & Grandfather rocks'
The 'Grandfather Rock' and 'Grandmother Rock' have been shaped over millions of years by wind and water to resemble human sex organs. A short narrow alley lined with souvenir stalls leads from the main road to the rocks. You actually end up on Grandmother's belly, where a crevice has been worn into the rock to form granny's legs. The Grandfather Rock, a penis shaped pillar, is about 25 metres to the south.
We had been walking around an hour in beaming sunshine to see what the fuss was about and when seeing them we were very dissappointed, nothing amazing and definatly wouldn't go out of our way to see them again. After seeing them we decided to walk back to our 'hut' on the beach which seemed to take us ages as we didnt realise how far round it were. That night we went to bed fairly early after about 200 ants decided to bite Peter's feet...Lucy just called him a big baby and told him that surely it couldnt hurt that much.
The following morning we decided to visit Wat Khunaram where there is a mummified Monk called Loung Pordaeng who died in the meditation position over 20 years ago and his body is still in a very good state, apart from having sun-glasses covering the fact that his eyes have fallen back into his head... Not just any sunglasses though.. ohhh nooo.. only bloody Ray Bans. After taking a few pictures we left and headed to a waterfall apparently 2km down the road.. again it was roasting hot and the so called 2km seemed like 6km. Along the way we saw a few elephants and fed them some bananas. We finally made it to the waterfall and proper couldnt wait to jump in and have a swim.. if only... what another disappointment in Koh Samui. The water wasnt nice at all. Surely everything in Koh Samui wasnt going to disappoint us.. was it??
And of course not everything disappointed..
It was Austrailia day, we hadnt had any dinner and was looking for a bite to eat. Where better than the Aussie Bar for a free BBQ .. exactly what a budget backpacker needed. Sausages, chicken, pork ribs, potato salad, rice and loads of other things.. it was a right feast. Peter ended up having about 6 sausages... (and lucy about 6 pork ribs!!)
Of course that night we didnt need any tea as we were still full off our dinner.. so again had another ealry night.. only this time it was Lucy's turn to get the ant treatment and can now truely sympathize for what Peter had gone through the previous night... it blooming hurts.
On the final day in Koh Samui we decided to have a beach day and chill out, Peter had been playing in the sea when he decided to go to the shop for a drink.. when returning he told Lucy he had been walking around with an extra pair of balls... basically a bucket full of sand down his pants... silly boy.
Again we had another early night as we were being picked up for Railay at 5.45am..
We really enjoyed staying on the beach in the hut.. apart from the million ants in the sand outside our door.
