The morning of leaving Ubud arrived, again we had a lovely breakfast, paid our debts and said our farewells to the homestay owners. We were schduled to get a bus outside a restaurant called Nomad a little further from where we had stayed between 9-30 -10am. So we stood in the scorching heat with Bemo and taxis drivers stopping every minute asking if we wanted some transport. This got very annoying, we weren' t just stood there for the fun of it. Anyways we stood waiting.. waiting .. oh and waiting.. no sign of our bus.. the owner of Nomad resturant came out to talk to us and asked what bus we were waiting for.. Lucy asked if they could give them a call and see where it was.. so he kindly did. The reply he got was that it would be 5-10 minutes. By this time it was 10.30am... 10 minutes later still no sign of the bus, so we got invited into the resturant to sit down. Peter decided to ring them again and got the same response '5-10 minutes, they have a lot of people to pick up first.'
11.10am and the bus decided to turn up, only 1hr 30mins late with only 4 people in the bus.. that were loads of people to pick up eh??
Lucy ended up sitting next to an over excited aussie guy called Darren who kindly informed us that in Austraila the English get called Poms.. now we never knew this but please inform us if it was definitely something we should have known haha!! Darren lived in Newcastle, Austraila and gave us his phone number to give him a call, so he can take us places.. When getting off the bus Peter and Lucy both turned to each other and said 'well i don't think we'll be using that number' As nasty as it may sound and we know he was only being nice.. but he was just too much for us.
Well we had arrived in Padang Bai and found a little cheap basic homestay.. it were absolutely fine just for the one night anyways.
Later that afternoon we went for a little wander around the town, nothing much to see. We think most people base themselves there for cheaper diving in the Gili's rather than staying on the Gili's.
There were a couple of groovy cafes with nice chill out areas, we decided to eat at one called Ozone. Peter ordered chicken, which came and wasn't cooked all the way through. But apart from that it was good. Ohhh must not forget to tell you we had some apple crumble and ice cream to share in Topi's cafe.. it was good but not as good as homemade crumble with custard. After that we walked back to the guesthouse down some narrow streets where we watched a bit of c*** fighting.. never seen it before and not really bothered for seeing it again. But its a big thing in South east asia and they probably look after their c*** better than their wives.
We had an early night ready to get up and catch the fast boat to Gili's Air. As we were waiting to get on the boat in the morning we started talking to a couple called Mel and Dave.. they were travelling Indonesia in 3 weeks. They weren't just any ordinary couple, Dave was blind and by the sounds of it travels in different places each year. When it came to getting onto the boat we had to climb over another to get to it, so Lucy carried their bags whilst Peter and Mel helped Dave on. Once on the boat Dave were asking all different questions like What colour is the boat? What colour is the sea where we are now? etc.. It saddened us both to know that he had travelled all theses beautiful places and not actually known what they look like. That didn't bother Dave, he still knew his favourite places. Good on him.
Definitely an inspiration to us all.
