We had a buffet lunch before leaving Kinabalu national park then headed back to where we started our Borneo trip, Kota Kinabalu. It was quite funny that 2 arrogant french lads were running late for their flight and the mini-van driver decided to drop us off first. We returned to Lucy's Backpackers Homestay and chilled out there... basically collapsed on the bed.
The following day we ventured out for some food, we fancied a big beef burger from burger king.... one slight problem, burger king had no beef burgers and were only selling fish and chicken burgers..... hahaha no thankyou, KFC across the road it is then.
We later headed to the airport on a combination of sweaty local buses. Not much to do at Kinabalu airport apart from sit around and wait. We had a 2 hour 30mins flight which we got to sit together this time . Quite annoying how stupid people don't sit in the seat they are given... idiots.
When arriving at Jakarta airport we had to pay US$25 each for our visa on arrival. We only had a $100 note... the man said he only gave change in Indonesian Ruppiah. Turns out to be at a very bad exchange rate.... a korean couple had the same problem as us, they too only had a $100 note. So we paid for all four of us and the korean man said he would get us money when we get through immigration. We trusted them, they were with their young daughter who sometimes helped with the translation of English. Once through immigration the kind man gave us 500,000 indonesian ruppiah, abit more than he needed to give us. Told us to get a drink with the extra money.
Our next plan was to find a bluebird taxi... the korean man had other plans. He had his own personal driver waiting. He asked where we were staying and offered us a lift. Their driver said they are staying at the other end of Jakarta from themselves so it would take along time, we kindly declined the offer and said we'd just get a taxi ourselves. On route into Jakarta from the airport we seemed to undertake on the hard shoulder several times.... must be the norm in Indonesia!
We stayed at a hostel called six degrees, it was very nice and had good facilities. We had only booked for 1 night but asked if we could stay for another... unfortunately they were fully booked for the following night. They said they could help find us accomodation elsewhere in the city. We decided to get some sleep and decide what to do in the morning...
7.30am we were both wide awake... lets catch the 8.45 train out of here!! Quick dash getting ready, settle our bill, order a taxi and find a ATM in a small period of time. Breakfast was included... toast with no butter on route in the taxi it is then! We made the train with a few minutes to spare.
It was an 8 hour train journey to Yogyakarta... we had lots of men asking us if we wanted food all the time and at each stop some people boarded the train trying to sell us more food...
