Fierenze
This morning we loaded up the coach and headed to Firenze. The drive from Rome to Florence happens to be in the tuscan region so we made a stop along the way in San Gimignano. As soon as the hills heighten, the trees thin out and the vineyards expand you know you've arrived in Tuscany. We arrived in the small medieval village on top this big hill that looked like something out of a movie. On the walk up the only thing in sight was hills and hills of olive plantations, green trees and blue skies. Maybe one of the most amazing places to have lunch in the world. The village happened to also be the home of the best gellato in the world, literally. This small gelateria in the center of town hold the title for worlds best gellato like over ten years runnin. Of course we all had to get some and not only was it the perfect ending to a perfect lunch, but was the BEST gellato I have ever had. We left San Gimignano and were off to Firenze. The ride was only about 2 hours so it flew by with perfect views of the tuscan region the whole time. We checked in the hotel and took our coach into the center of the city. We walked around for a bit then headed to our first big dinner together. Salad, pasta, bread, and chocolate ice cream was what we got for dinner, it was nothing like Nana's, Grams or even my Moms(?) but did the trick. After dinner we headed to a bar as a group that was filled with americans, aussies, and german high school kids all from different tours. It wasn't too bad, free drinks, awful karaoke, and watching people get wasted passed the time. We got home pretty early, some stayed out, most including myself passed out. The next morning breakfast was some toast, nutella and cereal (its a standard over here) then off to town again. We started with a leather demonstration and how its home to the finest in the world along with gold and silver. We then had a guided tour of the city and learned all about the statues all over town, the Medicis, and how Florence revolutionized the world due to its art, science and culture. We ended the tour at Duomo Sante Maria de Florre. I just stood there in awe of this amazing structure before my eyes. 200 years of work, and a whole church made purley or marble was right there in front of my face. The marble they used was all white, green, and red, go figure. but it really made this what it was. I went in to look around and of course amazed as soon as I walked through the door. Unlike St. Peters, this was more beautiful on the outside. but still had its charm. After my roomie and I grabbed some lunch at this local joint our tour guide Alissa recommended. Lunch was to die for, it reminded my of home eating the same things, it also re-ignited my thrill for cooking. Eating all this amazing food was making me so excited to get home and start cooking the same delights for all my loved ones, so get ready to eat when I get back! After lunch was some more sightseeing and walking then back to the hotel for a relaxing night. We had to leave the amazing city of Firenze and although I would've had no scruples with being left behind it was off to La Spezia and the Chinque Terre!
