The Hydrofoil ride over to the island of Capri took about 30 minutes. We rode along the coast pretty much the the whole time, everyone was snapping pictures along the way due to how amazing our surroundings were. Once I got to the island I had to take a tram up a huge hill into Capri proper and then a bus further up to Anacapri where I was staying. It was about a 15 minute walk from the bus to my hotel that seemed much longer because of my over-packed luggage I was carrying on my back. The hotel is set pretty far back in a neighborhood but luckily 2 friendly locals stopped on their own accord to ask me if thats where I was headed and pointed me in the right direction. This place is so well decorated with mini pillars that line halls and mini famous roman statues everywhere, its too good! I drop my stuff into my room and head back into the center of town. The first thing I did was take this single person chair lift to the highest point on the whole island, Monte Solaro. The ride is about 15 minutes of you just dangling in the small chair a good 30 feet up sailing over a bunch of gardens and trees. The last leg of the ride is this steep incline to the top that turned my stomach but was well worth it for what I was about to witness. I jumped off and walked to the landing, I looked down and all I could see was miles of crystal clear blues, greens, and aquas from the water. I walked around all 4 sides and just enjoyed the beauty that was everywhere I looked. I headed back down and grabbed a frutti di bosco to congratulate myself on making it up and down the terrifying chair lift, but in all reality I would do it over and over again. I then headed back towards my hotel where I earlier saw a sign for the Grotta Azzure. There was an arrow that pointed to the right, I figured it could be that far so I decided to walk. I walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked... I thought I was going to collapse. What seemed 6 miles later I finally arrived at the blue grotto. It was much smaller that anticipated and I did not know the entrance was so small. To get in you wait on this little platform and these row boats come by and pick you up. You row over to the next boat, pay for your "ticket" and head on in. There is a chain that runs from the outside to the inside of the cave as a guide for the row boats to pull on through. You also have to lay down when entering becuase there are waves that raise the water high enough that the boat is the only thing that can fit through. Once your inside it take a second for your eyes to adjust but once they do its just incredible. The whole cave is just lit up with the most brilliant cerulean blue you will ever see. As you row around the boat rower explains that the grotta used to be a private swimming pool for the romans and there used to be a hair pin entrance in the back that lead up to one of the homes. He also explains the reason for the phenomena is the reflection of the sun, onto the rocks, onto the sand at the bottom that creates the light. After I took the bus back into town and headed back to my hotel. Got ready for dinner and headed to a tiny side trattoria I saw closest where I was staying next to church of sofia. As I was sitting down to eat Mass was starting. From the little I could pick up the joint was family owned, the grandmother and father were sitting outside with the two sons while Maria was waiting on me. I ordered Mussels, insalata mista, and Spagetti with garlic oil and hot peper. The whole meal was very enjoyable and very fun watching the family smack each other around while talking and laughing throughout the night. I ended my meal with a piece of italian chocolate cake and lemoncello (the lemoncello is a specialty on the island, its made there) I walked back to my hotel and chatted with the gentleman at the reception desk named Cristiano. He spent the night telling me a great deal about the history of capri and the politics. Cris also told me his dreams to buy an island somewhere in greece and start another affordable hotel there as well. After we were finished chatting I went to the upper terrace and sat outside and enjoyed the night air before bed. In the AM I had some breakfast of toast and hot chocolate that may have been the best instant hot chocolate I have ever had. I ordered a shuttle from my hotel down to the port for there was no way in hell I was walking anymore on Capri. My away from the island was just as amazing as the ride over, except I did not want to leave. I will absolutely be coming back here for many many reasons! Off to Rome!
