Thursday was a great fishing day! Britt dropped Kiana off for her field trip to Hyalite Creek and then fished the Drinking Horse Mountain Creek.
I love stream fishing! There is nothing more zenlike then slowly making your way up a stream, looking at where the fish will be lying, and then casting your fly upstream so that is floats perfectly by their resting place. You also have to figure out what bugs they are eating that day so that you can select the right type of fly to cast. It's like playing chess with a fish, and I usually lose, but the thrill is in the game.
But my first 3 casts landed beautiful little rainbow trouts. Yay! I fished for over an hour and had several good nibbles that I didn't land but then I got to this pool just below an old barn and I knew there would be good fish here. It took a few casts but I landed this 8-inch rainbow trout, whom I named Bob. He was gorgeous. After I released him, I named the spot Bob's Pool and knew I would be back to try and catch him again.
After we picked up Kiana, we saw a mother doe and her twin fawns in the neighbors' yard. Nature is everywhere here -- deer wander through the town and in the fall, the bears are known to traipse through, eating off of backyard fruit trees and gardens.
