So on to Berlin for the world cup final. we arrived on saturday evening halfway through the 3rd and 4th place game. we had hoped to scam a hostel somewhere but the cheapest room was 110 euros and even a nearby campsite was full. in the end we decided to leave our bags at the station left luggage and sleep on a field somewhere. we set off to the nearby fanzone and had a great night sipping fine german beer and playing some lunatic polish men at cage football. at around 4 we headed for bed and settled down on our cardboard boxes (true). some of us were better prepared than others (mark only had a tshirt and shorts) but we all only got about 1 and a half hours sleep before being woken by daylight and drunken revellers. sunday day passed slowly and rather painfully especially as we began drinking around midday. this was because we thought the final started at 3 but it was actually 8 (nick holds up his hands) and we also lost 13 euros for booking an overnight train to krakow which we had to cancel. in the afternoon we slept and about 7 went to get our seats for the game. we were with a load of jokes englishmen and spent most of the game chanting for the english and cussing the italians - so gutted they won. by the end of the game we were all knackered from lack of sleep, heat and too much beer so picked up some more cardboard and headed for bed (except joe who somehow kept goin to the early hours). we were sleeping soundly on our field when all of a sudden at two in the bloody morning the sprinkler system came on. we grabbed our clothes and what cardboard we could and ran for our lives. we ended up sleeping on the bank of the river and we were so knackered it was one of the best sleeps of our lives even tho we had to get up at 8 to get on a train to krakow
