It will be good-bye to Hilo tomorrow morning. Met Katey at the Hilo Coffee house, a cool place where they brew their own Kona and have a museum/farmers market. Delicious coffee with almost no acid taste. We left our car there and let Katey drive. We proceeded down in the "nose" of the Big Island to the Ahalanui Hot Ponds. This is an area in the Puna district that has natural hot springs fed by an inlet from the ocean. The water gets refreshed every day and is pleasantly warm. It's a good size, about as big as two olympic size swimming pools, rimmed with volcanic rock. The park has put in railings and natural "steps" into the water, so it's easy access. We were there for about two hours before going to lunch in the little town of Pahala. Funky little hippy town, where we (Katey, Kathy, Bob and I) had fish and the best fried calamari so far on this island. Now, back at the cottage where Gary the owner let us do a load of laundry in his machine. Good thing as we're down to almost our last clothes (we packed light!). We could have made it to Kauai tomorrow, but this is really helpful. We leave on a 10:30 AM flight and should be in Kauai by 5 PM. Will be watching that Giant score all morning (we're 5 hours behind you). See you on Kauai!
