We are in Hilo! Actually, 16 miles north of Hilo. Katey Quinn, an old friend from Key West, surprised us by meeting us at the airport complete with leis and welcome gifts. One of the nicest surprises ever! We went food shopping as the place we're staying is fairly remote. But what a place! Two "cottages" are on the property, each about 700 square feet with king bed, little kitchen, flat screen tv and large bathroom. Pool and hot tub 20 feet away and expansive views of the pacific ocean. Gazebo and flowers all over. Psychedelic colors. Owner has an opulent 4,000 square foot house on the property and is gregarious and accommodating. He loves the guests and used to play guitar with John Lennon, Clapton and others! A real character as you can imagine. He gave us a tour of his lavish home and invited us to a BBQ tomorrow night. We spent the day in Hilo town with Katey having a long lunch and meeting. Took a drive to a magnificent valley just before sunset that I swear felt like Eden. Lush, unspoiled hawaiian wilderness. The fresh, earthy smell and unpolluted air is amazing. Tomorrow, Akaka Falls and Waipio valley with Katey and her sister.
