So, I'm travelling once again - this time for a 10 month stint abroad. I'm going back to the Motherland (UK) to continue my Professional Puppeteer's Diploma at the London School of Puppetry... but not before a short pit-stop in wonderful Korea!
I arrived on Wednesday night to a hot and humid city (which was quite odd, since I usually associate Korea with the freezing cold and snowy weather of the winter season). The plane trip over came with a lovely surprise - I bumped into my Primary ed friend from uni, Susan (who was also making her way over to Korea). We chatted away on the plane, and the 9 hour journey felt much shorter than usual. There were more surprises in store - turns out my other uni friend, Zaye, is also in Seoul teaching English! (what's more, she's staying in the same suburb as me! What are the chances?) We are all meeting up tomorrow for a mini Sydney Uni Primary Ed reunion at the famous Co-Ex mall for lunch and a movie.
Since being here for 2 days, I've already gone shopping for puppet supplies, enjoyed a late night movie at the cinema and dined at some quality Korean eateries. Oh how I love this country..
Today I accompanied my aunty to embark on a baking mission of epic proportions. My aunty is attending a baking course and once a month, she volunteers with her other classmates to bake hundreds of little cakes to donate to the local home for the disabled. So, there I was in a sunny yellow apron, cracking trillions of eggs and having no clue what anyone was saying (I really should learn more Korean). The experience was very rewarding, though - we made madeira cupcakes (with walnuts, raisins, wine and almonds). What's more, we got to take a few of them home :)
It's now just past 11pm and the night is (apparently) still young. My aunty and I are about to go out (and I have a feeling it's to go the local Korean baths...)
