Hey there,
the last three days we spent in and around Villa de Leyva (VdL) - a colonial mountain city and, as we had to experience, a popular travel destination for people from Bogota. After a quite tiring trip from the coffee zone - the driver listened to music aaaalll night (scatmaaaan......) - we arrived in VdL early Saturday. We decided for a trip by mountain bike in the surrounding area. We started to really enjoy it, when Maarten with full speed passed a giant, green SNAKE!!! We both did not see it laying on the path and Anna only saw it because it attacked Maarten when he passed about 20cm from its head. But nothing happened! And later on we found out that this snake is not that poisonous... but imagine the shock!!
We arrived well at one of the local sights (a 7m long fossil of a dinosaur!), when it started to.......rain (yeah - you knew it was coming). People told us that is was the first time in 60 days and that they were happy about it... we were not! Waited about an hour, but it did not stop raining. We eventually arrived back in the hotel, totally soaked :(
But we were lucky enough for this to be our only day with rain in VdL and we spent some really nice time in the city, having great breakfasts at courtyards, having coffee in a french bakery or at a local cupcake cafe... Awesome!
Today we decided to make up for our missed experience in San Gil and go rappelling - going down a waterfall. We had a blast getting soaked (in relatively warm weather though!) and getting to know some nice people from Bogota. They were so nice to take some pictures of us - have a look!
The final countdown started: We are flying back in 3 days. Thus, tomorrow we are heading for Bogota.
Yours,
Anna & Maarten
