After the Whitsundays we headed down the coast again to a small place called 1770, which was supposed to be a time to sleep and relax, but which turned out to have loads of activites on offer... And so we did a wicked motorbike tour with 'Scooteroo tours' on big chopper bikes. A great way to see the area - we saw kangaroos and a beautiful sunset over the water. And we also looked pretty cool! The next morning we had a surf lesson... Rather small waves, which turned out to be a good thing for us beginners and still loads of fun! And then a kayaking trip in the evening, where we saw another sunset and some dolphins really close to the kayaks.
We then moved on to Rainbow Beach, our leaving point for Fraser Island. We stayed at and organised our trip through Dingos, which we would highly recommend, since they made everything so easy... We were put with a great group of people - 5 German, 1 Swiss, 2 Welsh and 1 other English so a good mix! On the first morning of the trip we packed up all the camping gear, food and drink and then headed down to the island for our 2 nights camping adventure...
We had a fantastic time... Swam in the beautiful Lake McKenzie, with its white sands and clear blue water. Drove the beach road, stopping at the Maheno shipwreck, Indian Head viewpoint and Eli Creek, where we floated down the river to the sea... Had great fun living out of a 4WD for three days and getting back to basics! Definite must do in Australia - a once in a lifetime experience!
