We had a quick stop at Magnetic Island on the way down the coast, hired a car and explored the deserted beaches. Had a walk up to some WWII forts to see the spectacular view and hunt (unsuccessfully!) for koalas up gum trees... Then a night in Townsville to do a little shopping and rest before heading down to Airlie Beach, from where we started our three-day Whitsunday sailing trip.
We had a fantastic time aboard the Anaconda II, an 85ft Maxi Yacht, which has been used in the Sydney to Hobart race. The boat could hold 26 people in total, but luckily for us we had a group of 16, plus three crew... so lots of space and plenty of food! We lived a life of luxury for our three days aboard - passing beautiful deserted beaches, snorkelling with enormous fish, turtles, stingrays, parrot fish, clown fish, to name a few! We visited Whitehaven beach twice, visiting the lookout for an amazing view of the white sands and clear waters and then again for a game of frisbee and some sunbathing... It definately deserves it's title of one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Another crocodile sighting - this time in the water as we were standing on the beach, I think we must attract crocs! One night at a bar on an island, a few drinking games and some dancing and then back to the boat to sleep on deck under the stars...
The most amazing and relaxing few days - beautiful sights, fantastic people, great food. The best bit of Australia by far... so far!
