After leaving Varanasi we went on by train to Umaria. Unfortunately the train was 4 and a half hours late so instead of arriving at 10.15pm we arrived in the small hours and had a further hour by car to the Tigers Den resort in Bandhavgarh where we spent 2 and a bit nights. We could have stayed up and gone on the safai at 5am but we were too tired.
However the next two days we made up for it by seeing 5 tigers and a python devouring an Indian Roller.
We then had a 6hr transfer to the Royal Tiger resort in Kanha where we saw another tiger and a leopard. We also had our first taste of rain since Darjeeling. We spent another 3 nights here. This is also the home of a rare breed of deer called the marsh deer, of which we saw a few.
Leaving Kanha we had a 4hour transfer to Jabulpur and then on to the sleeper train to Aurangabad.
Today we had a city tour which took us out to some caves and then to one or two other locations and a hand weaving school.
Tomorrow we intend to visit some more caves at Ellora, which will be similar to todays but on a grander scale. It is still very hot here , we had some respite with the rain at Kanha but it has warmed up a tad since then.
Thanks to my sister, John and I have both got cobber coolers these have been invaluable in the heat, you just wear them round your neck and they help to keep your temperature down to a normal level.
Next stop will be Mumbai.
