Hi guys,It feels like it's been ages since I've written or spoken to you guys! Things feel like they're really hectic here at camp at the moment and free time is extremely hard to come by. One of the only times I can make sure I get on the computer is to get up at 7am when the internet room opens, but even then- I've tried twice before only to find the room is locked despite us being assured it opens at 7am. Anyway, it's open this morning and here I am, typing away, kinda wishing I was still asleep.Camp has been busy as it has been change over time, which basically means a whole bunch of kids go home after being here for 4 weeks and we get a whole new batch of other kids arriving for the 2nd 4 week block of camp. There are kids who stay the whole time and luckily I haven't had any disruption to my bunk, but other blokes have had 6 kids leave with 8 arrive. There are 5 cabins in the junior boys, cabins 1-5, and I am very lucky to have the smallest with only 4 kids and 3 counsellors in Cabbin 2. Some of the other guys, such as Cabin 1, have 3 counsellors but 13 kids....crazy. I don't know why they haven't sorted it out better, but it's fine with me only having 4!The biggest events of the past couple of weeks have probably been the competition against a nearby camp called Nock-a-Mixon, having visiting day and also a trip to an amusement park- Hershey Park (after the chocolate, Hershey Chocolate). The inter camp comp was a joke with both teams showing little to no sportsmanship, respect or common decency in a lot of games. We had punch ups, verbal abuse and we even had a female counsellor in the stands pushed over by a member of the visitng side. It was disgraceful really and quite interesting to see how Americans tolerate a lot of it. Kids that were involved in punch ups were not disciplined in the slightest and nothing was done about our female counsellor getting pushed over...although I almost came to blows with a few kids as she was standing next to me. It definitely says something about American psche and culture. That was the negative side...on the positive side the kids ha d a great time, we had a some free time watching events rather than organising everyone and it was a good little break.Visiting day was realted to the fact that we've reached the half way point of camp and parents like to come and have a look around, check on the kids and give them a whole bunch of crap. Visiting day is another cruisy day, because as a counsellor you just sit at the bunk waiting for the parents ( we only had 5 kids- so 5 sets of parents) to rock up and take their kids out for lunch. We were lucky in our bunk, the parents were kind enough to give us a Walmart Voucher and a hat as a thankyou present. It was interesting to see that it was often the parents of the really great kids that thanked the counsellors and gave them gifts, whereas some of the tougher kids' parents didn't even say thanks to a few of the guys let alone give them a tip.We lost 1 kid after 4 weeks and it was sad to see him go, but there were no tears like in the girls divisions...man I'm glad I'm not in girls' camp...there are some hormones flying round there!!!Hershey park was a pretty cool trip, with the whole camp busing out for the day. I was put on "extreme rides" luckily which meant I could go on all the wicked rollercoasters and also had an excuse to tell the kids why we weren't going to the arcade or crappy little kids rides. It's probably similar size to Aus. wonderland but man they had some cool coasters. A few of my favs were the realy old wooden coasters, just because they felt like they would fall apart! There's a possibility we'll be going to the amusement park- Six Flags on the next off days trip, which apparently puts Hershey to shame, so can't wait for that. It was hard work taking 7 kids round all day in the blistering heat trying not to get lost, making sure they drink enough, fitting in toilet stops and organsing meals...I was knackered. With the change over in kids going home and new ones arriving I was put on metro again, but this time I drove to Cherryhill New Jersey...and I DIDN't GET LOST!!! Jamie the kiwi was my navigator again and we got $35 in tips this time, so it was a sweet day. We drove out about 7am, unpacked bags for a few hours once we arrived at our stop then headed off the Walmart for shopping. I think we get around $100 for being able to get away from the kids, have a nice meal and go shopping (plus shift a few bags)...suits me!I'll try and get a few more photos and videos up soon...time is extremely valuable in here on the comps. There have been some funny times on little trips to the movies or rollerskating and stuff so I'll get them up asap! Hope you are all well and enjoying that July coldness, the heat here has been a killer. Any news would be very much appreciated as I am officially living in a buble! speak to you soon guys!
