Went straight into Kakadu this morning and decided to stick to the main roads as we still had a long way to go and so far since day one have had no mechanical trouble.
Most of the drive through Kakadu there wasn't much change to the landscape, a few rivers some breakaway country and plenty of burnt scrub. Looking at the map and talking to a few travellers told us that unless you were prepared to go off road and had a good strong 4x4 there very few things to see in Kakadu.
We did via off a little to see some rock painting, but it must have faded over the years, because we couldn't find anything. I did do a water hand painting though and photographed that but it was gone quickly in the 35 degree heat.
We exited pretty quickly from the park and by mid afternoon we were making plans for Kununnurra W.A
On the way we saw another horror smash on the highway, looked real bad.
The speed limits here are 130kms so if you do crash it's bye bye. This has been the 7th crash we have seen on this trip. It keeps you vigilant behind the wheel.
We seemed to forget time and distance after travelling for so many weeks and we gave up our trek west at a park on the Victoria River. This is a very peaceful spot but only a few meters from the river, i hope the crocs aren't hungry. We cooked up 4 huge burgers and ate the whole lot, we both feel like pigs and will probably be up most of the night with belly aches. Kununnurra tomorrow and Broome in a few more days. s*** getting close to home.
