So.....Slovenia. A very pleasant surprise. Neither of us had any idea what to expect really, but when we reached there (at 2am) we took an instant liking to it. Ljubljana is a beautiful city, I use the term city loosely, model village would be more appropriate. It was clean, very pleasing on the eye and best of all hardly any tourists. Michelle and I are pretty much convinced we are going to move there.
Our first day was spent generally wandering around the city a bit bleary eyed due to our 2am arrival. However, once our eyes adjusted we managed to climb the hill up to the castle and have a nose out across the surrounding area from the clock tower. Well worth the climb! After some carfeul scrutiny of the weather we decided our next day would consit of a visit to Lake Bled.
Lake Bled was uber nice. In fact nice is a bit of a weak adjective to describe it but I'm getting sick of beautiful! We walked the whole way round the lake and even managed to somehow acquire our own rowing boat and row out to the island in the middle. The woman who left us in charge of the boat was clearly crazy, but we made it back alive, so well done us. We had a really good day and probably took far too many pictures but we couldn't get over how lovely it was.
The following day was spent taking another visit underground. Forget Wookey Hole, we visited the world's largest subterranean canyon, seeing some huge stalagmites and stalagtites along the way. Even learnt that they take 100 years to grow 1cm so the ones we were looking at were very old! Apparently taking pictures in the caves wasn't allowed, but fear not we managed to get some snaps to bore you all with! The caves were set in a National Park, which has just added to how much I love Slovenia as the whole area was (sorry to say it) beautiful!
Our last day in Slovenia coincided with their public holiday, so all that was open was Bars and restaurants. Needless to say our memory of this day is a little hazy, so perhaps the less said the better!
Overall we both didn't want to leave. It is a brilliant place to go, but don't all rush there at once, I don't want too many tourists there spoiling it for me! Onto Croatia now.
