Helen is weak and has gone to bed so I will inform you of our latest activities (I hear people actually read this thing!)
As previously informed we travelled from Naples to a little known town, roughly 2 hours from Florence called Castagneto Carducci. This was the location of our (first of many) holidays from our travelling and also the home of my cousin. He also happens to live in a 3 star hotel which appeared to be empty- was in fact full but dont know where they where all hiding! Naturally we spent our time here lazing about by the olympic sized swimming pool, playing tennis and sipping coffee in the outside bar. We also happened to be surrounded by beautiful hills and fields and so the original plan of doing a day trip to Florence pretty much went out the window. Crowds of American tourists vs. sunbathing by the pool.....no contest. And anyway were giving ourselves a reason to return.
We didn't however become totally bone idle while we were here and spent one of our days visiting the leany leany tower in Pisa. Having gone expecting a bit of an anti-climax we were pleasantly suprised. Pisa itself is a really nice small managable town with some good shops and resturants- not to mention an amazing crepes place! The tower itself is also pretty cool, with a cathederal and other round building in its proximity to boot. Personally I really wanted to go inside the building as I have so many burning questions......is the floor wonky too? do you 'climb' from one side of the room to the other?....but for 15 of our fine Euros we decided not to. Therefore if you can help us out and answer these we would be much obliged.
With the moral of the trip being 'when in Rome' we decided to do the token 'holding up the tower' shot from below. Not as easy as you may imagine as we had to battle our way through about 100 similar minded people. I think at one point we could spot about 9 or 10 people standing with their hands in the air, generally looking like fools (yes I guess that makes us fools too). All in all our mini-break was muchos relaxing, even with my cousins 1 year baby knocking about (sooo cute!) and we left for Slovenia fully recuperated for our tourist bashing ahead.
We will inform you of the delights of Slovenia in the coming days, its a goody you deffinetly must visit. Now off to bed before another trip underground tomorrow......
