So on the 26th September we got up at 7:30am to make sure we would get to Australia Zoo for when it opened at 9am. We even bought our tickets the day before so that we wouldn't have to queue when it did open.
The good thing about doing this was that we managed to be practically the first people in the park. We headed straight to the Kangaroo area, which is a part of the zoo with the kangaroos roaming free and you just walk up to them and feed them. Because we were there first we had the whole sanctuary to ourselves and could spend ages taking photos and petting them.
Once we got bored of the kangaroos we headed further into the park, into the koala area, which was similar to the kangaroo area and you weren't seperated from the animals. We were still ahead of the crowds so we had the koalas to ourselves too.
Once this was done we headed to the Asian section to check out the elephants and the tigers. Unfortunately, these were in enclosures so you couldn't touch these. At least we had already stroked tigers and ridden elephants in Thailand.
We went to the Cocoseum to see the show which Steve Irwin would have done if he had still be alive. It was quite good but cheesy with lots of conservation messages about habitat destruction. It was quite funny when they tried to do a part with birds and as soon as they released them they flew off and the woman had to run out of the arena. There were also lots of memorial messages left for steve around the arena which were sad to read.
After this we continued looking around the zoo at the various animals and left about 3pm. The best thing about the zoo was that the animals were not all locked up in cages and the public were able to interact with the animals.
That evening we drove to Brisbane and went out in the city for a meal. The next day we went to Brisbane Museum and visited some local markets. We had planned to stay longer but there wasnt as much to see as we had first thought so left for Surfers Paradise.
