In the middle of the night Sarah shouts. OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!! When I ask her what has happened she just keeps repeating it over and over. She is on all fours looking into the corner of the room, then just says "Oh, I was dreaming". She says she was going down a tunnel and got trapped. I keep giggling about this for a while before drifting off to sleep. We've only slept two hours but I don't feel very tired as it's only early evening at home. I wake a few times through the night but go back to sleep each time as the others are still asleep and I assume it's still early. When I wake up Hannah tells us it's half 2 and she's been prodding me to wake me but I stayed asleep!! Not like me, normally wake very easy! We get ready to go out, say hello to the spa receptionists as it is right outside our room and they are chatting away together. We go via the pool, a small outside covered area but we've come at the wrong time of day and there isn't a lot of sun. We decide to put our sun lotion and deet on and go for an explore. The receptionist points us in the direction of the beach and we head off. Security help us cross the busy road by holding a red flag and blowing a whistle. You walk along with them but the traffic barely stops! We decide we should buy a red flag and whistle! We walk through the streets, people say hello and point to their produce in their shops but are not overly pushy. There are offerings everywhere, they are small boxes made of banana leaves with anything inside, fruit, flowers, eggs, crackers, mints, cigarettes. They are on the floor, outside doors, on statue chairs, on sort of hanging bird houses also made of banana leaves or something like that. As we walk along we decide to turn left as we think following kites will lead us to the beach (Hannah's great idea!) we get to a place which is much busier, there are big branded shops here, Marks and Spencer's, Topshop, Quicksilver, Starbucks etc all alongside small shack like shops selling sunglasses. Lots of people with tourist information. We pass lots of lovely looking authentic restaurants an Aussie bar and an Italian restaurant. We ask for directions to the beach and are told to go back on ourselves. We go back to the busy centre and take a different turning where we see the sea! We were so close before! We reach the miles of sand and the sun is coming down. There are children playing and people still in the sea. I'm sure it is quite quiet as its evening but people are soaking up the last of the rays. There are a few 'dog alerts' we're being vigilant as we haven't had rabbie jabs but they are all pets and being walked by their owners. We sit here for a while chatting, catching up and have a little paddle before deciding to find somewhere to eat. The restaurant we go to is all open at the front and surrounded by a pond with fish in it and high reeds. We sit on low sofas to eat. We are brave and order something authentic (not the pizza option although we were tempted) but we did stick to chicken. We are visited by a cute small cat under the table looking for scraps. It looks like a stray but the staff don't seem overly bothered. Still, we keep ourselves on rabbies alert. After dinner we walk back and shops are still open, the streets are still busy. I feel like I like the place even better with all the lights. The one thing a bit worrying is the busy road outside out hotel that we were escorted across before. We have built our confidence though and realise that if you walk across in a large enough space the traffic stops for you. We stock up in the small 24 hour shop next door and head to our room. We pass the spa girls who give us a price list and we have a 50% off ticket. We decide on a 2 hr package as it is now half 8 and they close at 11. We get showers (with a few toilet technicalities that don't need to be mentioned) and head through to the spa. It's upstairs where the fish tanks are and Sarah is taken to one room and Hannah and I go into another together. We are given small black briefs and giggle while we decide whether your meant to wear bikini bottoms underneath! We have a full body massage (quite forceful and at times she was on the table with her knee in my back! We were quite shocked at the uncoveredness of the whole situation and I laugh when the lady massages my stomach and puts her fingers in my belly button!! We are then covered in a scrub and left to crisp up before it is rubbed off and the we are covered in a milk mask. Once this is dry we are asked to turn over. Through the head hole I notice that the lady has taken her shoes off. Nothing too unusual but there isn't a lot to look at under the table. When she moves round to go through the whole process on my back I realise she is wearing the exact same Flip flops as Hannah has. I try not to laugh and think of how I could tell Hannah!!! Once we are left to dry off on our fronts I ask Hannah where her shoes off and let her know what's happened to them!!! Poor Hannah, I couldn't stop laughing!! They come back in and finish the routine. I notice the lady take the shoes off and put hers back on. It is now time for our 'jacuzzi' but this turns out to be a bath that bubbles, Hannah and I nervously realise this is a single activity so ask to get into our bikinis but they say no!! I awkwardly giggle as I get in first; poor Hannah again, having to get into my water!! We swap over and then both dry off, get changed and head out. We have to wait for Sarah and I take the offered ginger tea in a small glass. It tasted funny, I didn't like or dislike it. We told Sarah our story when she came out. We head back to the room and research and plan some activities to do on our trip. We book our next hostel, three capsule beds in a 14 bed all girl room in seminyak, just north to where we are already. The reviews look great and the owners come across as very helpful. Tomorrow we are heading to the water park and we have an alarm for 9:00. I have been writing this for an hour, trying to remember and keep in my memory all that has happened so far! I am loving it. But I am not quite in Bali time yet and it is 2 am. Starting to feel quite sleepy now though.
