Sienna, to Florence, to Perugia
Today we started out to visit Tricia, Janet's friend of 40 years who lives with her husband Stefano in Perugia, Umbria. Janet stayed in Perugia for 5 months in 1986, taking an Italian language course.
Sienna was on the way so we arrived in time for morning coffee. It was sunny, but bloody cold. There was a chocolate festival on where stalls filled the main square with artisan chocolates and chocolate products, such as chocolate orange segments and figs 'fici'.
Then, onto Florence, beautiful as always. The roads were great with the help of the GPS which speaks to us in Italian. As we arrived we drove down avenues of Pines. Parking is a challenge but we drove through the City centre and on the fringe found a good garage 'Parcheggio', very close to 'Piazza San Marco'.We both know the city quiet well but walking into the area of 'Duomo' is always stunning. Piazza Republicca for lunch in the sun, although the air is still cold. Afterwards, a walk through the 'Piazza Senora', then the 'Piazza Mercato', the 'Uffizi' and 'Ponte Vecchio'. Then onto Perugia with Trisha and Stefano, roast chicken at home with roasted fennel, peppers, and cherry tomatoes(delicious) and more local wines.
