So today was a lazy, about town type of day. We spent a humbling couple of hours up at the Shrine of Rememberence, a huge memorial to all the Australian and New Zealand Armed Corps beginning from World War I to present. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, architects have designed the building such that the sun will shine on the word 'love' in an engraved phrase, Greater Love Hath No Man. I felt a responsibility to acknowledge veterans of another country for their service, in honor of my father, who is a veteran of the Korean War.
Our second stop of the morning was the Royal Bontanical Gardens. Here we only walked around a small portion of the gardens, which are more amazing than I have words for. I'm really happy we spent time here. And Rose, I took LOTS of pictures of the flowers! ha ha ha :-)
From there we walked along the Yarra River and had lunch. My first Australian Indian food. It was yummy!
Next we walked to the Eureka Tower. We took it up 88 floors to view the City. I got sea sick with the swaying, but the views were to die for! It was a lovely sunny day so the city was really in great light and you could see for miles!
Then we tried to get to the Aquarium, but we dawdaled too much and missed the last entry. So we decided to take a tram all the way out to Sandringham, to the end of that train line to see the ocean and watch some tankers sail by. Then as I had mentioned, I had yet to have an Aussie beer during my stay, we went to a local Brew-thru, BWS (Beer, Wine & Spirits) where we picked up Pure Blonde, Redback, Beez Neez, and Boag's Premium Lager. Needless to say, I was now in heaven. Peter has nightmares for the city of Sydney when I mentioned that Sharon and I will be doing a historic Pub Tour of The Rocks when we get there. However, the site did say, it is NOT a pub crawl... Hmmm, maybe we signed up for the wrong tour....
Then we took two stops back towards the city to watch the sunset over Brighton Beach. We looked for the historic Brighton Beach Boxes, but there weren't any at the location where we were. On the way, Peter showed me the hospital where he works.
We stopped at Boarder's to look for some music and books, one of my favorite English actressess, Brenda Blythen, has a biography out, but I think I'll wait till I'm home. Not like I have any time for reading.
Well, big day tomorrow with the Ocean Road tour, till then. G'day.
