So I had quite the adventure today...my plan was to walk towards the louvre and take in some scenery during the 45 minutes. I had googled the journey and headed off towards what I thought was the right direction. While I was walking the scenery got more and more destitute (garbage everywhere, a man peeing on the sidewalk, etc) but I just figured it was like other cities where just a block or two away from main attractions is complete squalor. Once 45 minutes had passed and I got trapped in a park, I decided to use my phone. The gps told me that I had gone in exactly the opposite direction of the louvre and was now twice as far away! I made up my mind to go to the nearest metro and never attempt to walk in Paris again (unless I can actually see my destination). When I purchased my 3 day pass I realized that some time during my little walk I had lost €20 and my room card! Getting to the louvre by metro took just minutes. The musee d'orsay is only a block away from the louvre and since I wasn't as excited about it chose to breeze through it first. I houses a very large collection and saw quite a few paintings by van gogh and Monet. Once I had seen as much as I could given my time constraints the sun was setting so I took a little detour to take some pictures at the famous pont Alexandre III with the eiffel tower in the background. I was left with 4 hours to tour the louvre. I mostly saw the Greek statues (such as Venus de Milo) and Italian paintings (such as the Mona lisa). I still had an hour left but my legs were aching from walking almost nonstop all day so I hobbled to the metro and back to the hotel.
