Clare valley
We hired a car and got a last minute deal on wotif.com on a cabin. We were set for a week end in Clare! Leaving at 10 in the morning we headed off - to arrive in mintaro, a main hub in the 1800's for getting paid, getting drunk and getting laid! What a life back then. We got a this history from the mintaro wines caretaker who as well as sampling his wine told us the confusion of having two small towns with similar names on different sides of the state. Often people/ deliveies aiming for mintaro end up in minatro. Who's bright idea was it in Adelaide to have so many North roads and giving one road up to 3 names! It makes navigation really tough.
Anyway after purchasing lots of wine, he told us we had to visit Martindale hall, where some of picnic at hanging rock was filmed. We are so glad we did, the house is in the middle of no where and Absolutely massive! The house has been kept in pristine condition and every now and then they hold a whodunit night.
We proceeded on to Wilson winery at polish hill, which is actually a valley, then on to Pikes wines and their impressive tasting system which distributes exactly 20mls into every glass and puts argon gas in place of air. We met an Italian couple who gave us some tips on where to visit while in Italy. We had a lunch reservation at skillogee at 2pm so raced off there. Lunch was served slowly, but it was tasty.
Off home where with the fire started in the cabin we watched the expendables and after such a big day I passed out on the couch - ahh the romance!
I managed to wake up in time for dinner and a game of uka.
The way home was one of exploration. Coffee at the redgrape bakery/ cellar door and homewares. Surprisingly nice coffee.
A stop in Auburn to visit the cwa market and have the lighest, fluffest yummiest scone with homemade jam and cream at cygnet cafe/accommodation.
A quick stop off to check out a monument off the main road which turned out to be marker that dictated north, south, east and west.
Then driving to the watershed for lunch and our walks.

Mum Sounds like a nice place. I've been to hanging rock too. Eerie to think of the movie, don't know if it's true?
