Happy Birthday Sam! 16 today!
Today we celebrated Sams day by catching the bus to Burnside, what an absolutley beautiful suburb. This walk is the best so far from the book and is just magical. The first kilometer of the walk led us to a rope swing. It swings over a stream, or shoud I say trickle? Any way dont let go of this one. The rope swing hangs off the best climbing tree, so there is hours of entertainment. We meandered through this magical suburb by following the running creek and books directions. There are green plants and georgeous rocks framing the creek the whole way to the main road.
We were then directed across an oval and over a road to get to Ferguson Park. This park was in full bloom, there was a mist of rain coming down, which made our pictures of flowes that little bit more fresh. This park even has wild Koala's in its branches!
Exiting the park we walked up a very steep hill, with massive gum trees in convient locations -such as the middle of a driveway and the middle of the road. Your not allowed to cut these massive trees down as they are shelter for the Koala's that manage to brave the steep hills.
We walked through this beautiful street that was lined with massive old houses from the 1800's next to interesting archetectual 70's style houses, with a rare uber modern house thrown in. Of particular interest were the swedish looking houses with the pointed roof and mirrors in the triangle it formed- weird.
The walk ended at the mini lake/picnic area.
We continued walking on, stopping for lunch at Fasta Pasta for their $7 special. Unfortuntely they had run out of fettacini so we had to have liguni instead (we honestly wouldn't have noticed, but the waitress was very apolgetic). After lunch we walked to Burnside shopping centre to see the massive tree they built the shopping centre around. The story goes environmental protesters saved the tree by getting the shopping centre developers to build around it. This was ok for a little while but everyone knew the tree would die inside a shopping centre. Fast forward a few years and now the tree has realised it should be dead and is slowly doing so. Millions of dollars are being spent on saving the tree. The beautiful trophy wives that cake on the makeup and shop at Burnside don't want them to save the tree. You see, as it dies it drops leaves into their coffees while they gossip at CIBO! oh well, its an attratraction that drew us in. We didnt get any leaves in our coffee or the massive chocolate walnut ice cream I was told I must eat from CIBO. Yes it was yummy & they didn't stop puting ice cream in when they hit the rim of the tub, they just kept jaming that delicious goodness in.
A good day out all in all.
