Christchurch
It was an early start leaving the Lake Ohau to make our way to Christchurch - Our first stop was at the beautiful Mount Cook - Where we took an 1 and a half walk to get a better look at the snow capped mountain! Again awesome scenery that you cannot possibly describe unless you are looking at it!
On the drive back for the first time on the whole trip I ventured from the back of the bus (where the naughty kids sat) and spent most of the journey talking to the Aussies and playing bus games.
Eventually after a long day driving we arrived back in Christchurch and all piled of the bus - I checked into my home for the next 5 nights - Base Backpackers! its a pretty nice hostel compared to some of them barring the dingy grebo bar!!
The group had decided to do our own thing in smaller groups for dinner as we had not booked anywhere and then meet up for drinks after. I had a curry which I have been craving for months with Rhe, Bianca, Laura and Uie, Gemma and Michiel - It was really nice despite Rheonna's "It will never be as nice as my mums curry"
We met up with most of the group at 9 ish and made our way to Shooters, unfortunatley some people could not get in as off ID and Trainer issues!!! So we ended up in an Irish Bar - Realising this was probably the last night I would see most of these people and also the last night I would be getting drunk for a good while I decided to get suitably drunk!
Most people were pretty tired and left fairly early so me and the Crazy Australians said goodbye in style drinking tequilas and c*ck sucking cowboys!! (sorry mum but it is the name of the shot) We made our way to "the strip" and went in some dingy bar where there was transvestites and weirdos and danced the night away. Eventually staggering our way back to Base.
The next day pretty much everyone was leaving for home or their next destination.... So I was up at 10 to say the first few goodbyes, it felt like every hour after that someone else was jumping on the shuttle and I must have hugged everyone 100 times each throughout the day. Tonight I went to dinner with Kareena, Natasha, Fiona, Rich, Vic and Lorraine - i think we are the pretty much the only ones now left in Christchurch. We had pizza which was really nice, then I had a farewell drink with Rich and Vic in Base (they are off to South Africa)
I then had to switch rooms as the crappy staff at base had put 5 people in a 4 bed dorm so I went from a nice small room with English people and a crazy dutch woman to a room where no one speaks English!! Oh well.....
Am going to spend the rest of my time in Christchurch doing touristy things, buying gifts and sleeping. I also need to work out how I can make my back back 5KGs lighter as I have finally read my Thailand Itineray and I have a lot of trekking to do and I have to carry it with me.
I am looking forward to getting back to roughing it in the sweltering heat believe it or not as Australia and New Zealand have been more like holidays!
I will update again before I leave Christchurch on Saturday and then I am not sure how often I will have internet access!
6 Weeks to go and it will all be over --- BOO!!!
