Queenstown
We left Fox Glacier and headed to Queenstown passing some awesome scenery and beautiful lakes and waterfalls on the way! We arrived in Queenstown and have ther luxury of staying in a nice hotel... we are in the crap rooms but it still looks nice! I have booked on to do three activities tomorrow - A Shot Over Jet in the morning, a BUNGEE JUMP at lunch time and hand-gliding in the afternoon. So a nice action packed day. This evening we went out as it was Rich's Birthday - although the big night out is tomorrow! It was a good night but I was shattered from the Fox Glacier Hike so was in bed by 12.
The next day I woke up nice and early and went with Laura and a few others from the group to the shot over jet! It was good fun although not as scary as I imagined it would be, and I think my mind was more on the bungee jump than anything else. The jet did some good 360 degrees turns and did look like it was going to hit the rocks a few times though so a worthwhile experience... I then wondered around Queenstown for a bit until it was time to be at the Bungee Office. By now I was pretty nervous and feeling a little sick, it was a 15 minute ride out to the Kawaru Bridge where everyone stayed pretty quiet....
THE JUMP - was brilliant - me and Emma decided on doing a tandem jump ( i thought that would be easier ) we got harnessed up on the bridge 43M up above the Kawaru River and the next thing I know we are stood on a ledge, the only way we were clipped together was by holding onto each others harnesses which were attached to the same bungee cord. All I remember was hearing Emma shouting at the guy - "have you got me, have you got me" Then him saying "5, 4, 3, 2, 1" and then Emma yelling "F******K!" I am not sure if we jumped or just fell but I did not even get time to scream until my head dunked into the water and we were flying back up into the air!! It was brilliant... easily the best thing I have done. I would have jumped again straight away if I could have got it into my budget!!
DO A BUNGEE JUMP!!
After Laura had done her jump me and Emma met up with a Rich who had just done a Canyon Swing and Vic who had just done The Nevis Bungee - which was about triple the size of mine. The weather was crap and after a Bungee Jump I could not see how I was going to enjoy hand-gliding so Me, Emma, Rich and Vic decided to get the Bumble Bee party started early by paying a visit to World Bar at 4pm! I knew this would be a bad idea but we were all on a high from the day. 4 vodkas later I was in an off licence buying a bottle of vodka and a bottle of malibu for some pre going out drinks!
I then skipped dinner as I was avoiding Mandy our guide because I thought she would be angry I had not done the hand-gliding, as the day before she told me I would have to pay for it anyway and I promised I would go! We then started on our bumble bee outfits - I put yellow tape stripes on my back and attached 2 coat hangers as wings, then put yellow Z's on the front. For some reason we had rubber gloves to we put blacj stripes on those. Indivdually we looked ridiculous but as a group we looked pretty good.
By the time we went out I was fairly drunk, first stop Ice Bar... this was cool (ha excuse the pun) we got dressed up in big warm coats and boots - someone foolishly challenged me to drink 4 cocktails in 20 mins (you can only stay in there 20 mins) Me Uie and Laura completed the challenge with ease. The drinks were strong and you drink out of a cup made of ice. After this it all started to get hazey - we went to a bar called Frasers where we were doing shots and I met up with Fleur who I met in Oz, then we went to World Bar where apparently I consumed stupid amount of booze! They serve drinks in a teapot and you are supposed to drink them out of shot glasses but I was just pouring them into my mouth!
I have very little recollection of this night but apparently I fell asleep and Uie put me into a taxi at 2am (the hotel was about 1 street away) When my roomies came back at 3 I was asleep on the hotel room floor - Laura me into her bed as I could not climb the ladder and then at 5am Gemma found me 7 floors down running around reception.
When I woke up I was still very drunk and was horrified to be told I had 15 minutes to pack an overnight bag for a cruise and get my back pack on the bus!! On top of that I was not allowed breakfast until this was done!
Queenstown was awesome but I will not be drinking that much again for a long time!!!!
