Shell - This morning started slowly as we are all exhausted from the many miles we have trekked around Vancouver. Today we headed off to the Sky Train and back to the airport to pick up the hire car which we need for the next part of our journey. For some reason I (Michelle) am down as a named driver LOL as if!!! After signing many pieces of paper we were directed to our vehicle which is a red JEEP, plenty of room in the back but only just enough room for John's long legs in the front. Hats off to John he's doing well driving it, it's automatic of course but it also has a very sensitive brake pedal which we're getting used to. So from the airport John asked for directions to Granville Island, he really should have chosen his co-pilots more carefully but we made it in the end. Granville Island is so different to downtown Vancouver, no high rise buildings, lots of converted industrial units housing arts and crafts shops, with a lot of emphasis on First Nation art. There is a fantastic indoor market selling all sorts of food and drink. Why is it that the fruit especially always looks so much better when you're on holiday. The market was an array of colour, fantastic. We had lunch overlooking Granville Bridge and quay with a busker singing in the background. The sun is out and I can't believe our time in Vancouver is nearly at an end, so much more to see and do.
John - Yep, Granville Island is very different to the rest of Vancouver - much more chilled, very artsy and full of people eating !! We had great fish and chips (of course) followed by crepes - sitting in fantastic sunshine. Driving is taking some getting used to - especially the brake pedal - the slightest touch and everyone flies forward in their seats - I'm trying to be gentle !! It's been a long time since I've driven an automatic - I'm not sure I'm doing everything right - should there really be a smell of burnt toast every now and again ??? maybe I shouldn't be pressing the brake and the accelerator whilst in Drive !!!. Oh well - got a good few miles to get it right over the next few weeks.
Last minute update - we went to see Cirque de Soleil this evening and WOW ! what a show... we saw KOOZA, a great mix of circus acts and clowing around ... we'll probebly say more in our next update but what a great way to spend our last night in Vancouver. No photos taken but nevr fear - I have the full DVD !! hurrahh, I can sens e your expectation from here ... a DVD and several thousand photos... block book that weekend !.
