John - The weather seems to be turning, still cloudy in the morning but the sun quickly comes through. Today we decided to venture out of town to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. At the base of Grouse Mountain (which by the way is still capped by a big cloud otherwise the cable car trip would have been our next stop) we booked up at the Hotel and walked down to Canada Place to get the Shuttle Bus - through Stanley Park, over the Lions Gate Bridge and on to Capilano. Much more than just a bridge - there was a great "warm-up" act telling the story of how the bridge was originally built and then turned into Vancouver's first tourist attraction. On the other side of the bridge there are a series of treetop and woodland walks with great views of ....trees !! (big trees I have to say). And so as not to keep you in "suspense" (get it!!) what of the Bridge itself ?? Pretty impressive overall - very "swayey" (is that a word), "swingy" (not a real word either) and "suspendy" (surely not). A great day out - followed by a bus trip back to town experiencing a real Canadian traffic jam - we are so privileged.
We must be on a roll because we also planned our evening and it worked out great as well. Shell has a deep desire to go to The Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown. Bearing in mind our previous hunt for a restaurant I was expecting another evening trek around the city limits. But no, an also direct (and downhill) walk straight into Gastown, arriving at the Steam Clock just to see it strike the hour (whistling like a kettle). Sat out on the sidewalk (can't you tell I'm starting to blend in with the lingo) and watched the world go by as we tucked into Spaghetti and stuff and I tested what the Granville Island Brewery had to offer.(I'm going to leave Clara to tell you what happened whilst we quietly ate our dinner!!)
Clara J - Haha, as we were eating our dinner, a man and lady came up to us, and introduced themselves, from a modelling company called NEXT. They asked me where I was from, and how old I was, then they gave me their details, it was a bit unexpected! And then that was it really, they had gone. Bit of a shock I must say! But we had a great night, the restaurant was lovely, and it was a nice warm night. I also really enjoyed Capilano, it was really good fun! There was also a bit of a shock there too! But I will leave that for Joe to tell...
Joe J - We got to Capilano and were standing around waiting for the tour. On the first section of the tour, which told you about the story of Capilano, out of nowhere one of the teachers from my school (Miss Dalton) tapped me on the shoulder, said hello and then ran off !!!!.. Now that was a surprise to us all, how random, talk about a small world (this holiday is getting more random by the minute !!).
Shell - Once again, what more can I add? Thoroughly enjoyed the day at Capilano and the evening events were a bit surreal what with the restaurant being next door to the model agency offices, but we don't really need them to tell us we have a beautiful daughter!! Have always said that Clara would have to support us in our old age. The bridge did sway a lot, it felt a bit like being in I'm a Celebrity - I will never laugh at them going over that bridge again and struggling to walk in a straight line.
John - Oh and one other thing - What's going on at Aston Villa. I was wearing an AVFC polo shirt and walked back into the Hotel to be bombarded by news of O'Neill, Friedel, Young and Milner by this young doorman who seemed to know more about the English "soccer" league than I do. I think I will stay away from the papers - I don't want to know what sorry mess we are getting into thanks.
