Hello to anyone reading this. Sorry for the irregularity of these messages - it sounded easy at first - just log on and update every day ... some days you are just not that organised... it doesn't help that we don't have wireless in the hotel (I'm not paying $25 for what should be free!!)and so have to decamp to Starbucks - although that's no real problem as there is one on every street corner - mind you we have spent more than $25 on coffees and frappa-thingys - doh!!.
Anyway you don't want to hear me grumble about the cost of wi-fi or how much I'm spending at Starbucks. Let's get you up to speed with what we've been up to.
Today - Sunday 8th - the weather was still rubbish - still can't see the mountains so we decided take a look around the city and focus on shopping. We decided to start at Canada Place - a stunning looking complex on the Waterfront. To get there we thought we would test out the Skytrain (metro) so walked to Chinatown and took the 3 stops to the Waterfront. Canada Place was indeed stunning but we were a bit misled by the guidebooks - not really a shopping destination. We walked along the Pier and marvelled at the huge Ocean Liners moored there and then asked at an info centre where Clara could get her fix of shopping for the day - cue Pacific Mall. The rest of the next few hours is really a bit of a shopping blur ... I do remember that we found a food court and the kids had Hot Dogs and New York Fries and Shell and I had a plate of Chinese from the Flaming Wok !! That food court became our base camp for the afternoon. We finally escaped and headed back to the Hotel - a journey punctuated with Joe winning a Coca-Cola beach ball playing hoop-la, dancing in street on Granville St, and then us finding a fantastic grocery store. Eventually back at the hotel the kids went for a swim and then it was time to go out again. Although setting off pretty late it should have been easy - Shell had found a restaurant in the guidebook (CinCin) and we walked straight up Robson and turned left and then .... couldn't find it. We then walked for what seemed like hours !! ...back down to the harbour, to Canada Place and then ended up in Gastown - almost a full circular tour of the City. At gone 10pm we found a pizza restaurant, all almost falling asleep we eventually boxed up what we couldn't eat and got a taxi straight back to the hotel.Whacked.
Clara: Well, today was certainly my kind of day... shopping! Hehe. We started off on our journey planning on going round Canada Place, but to find out there wasn't actually anything there. So we found a mall! There was a lot of designer shops, then we got into the main centre, and we found an amazing shop called Hollister. We had lunch at a food court, it was amazing! I found it so cool, you could have a Hotdogs, Chinese, Sushi, anything you could imagine, it was there! We then trekked on, and one of the last shops we went in was a MAC shop, me and mum got a free sample of the foundation, i'm going back there! That's when Joe spilt his coke in his bag and we had that big palava! We then made our way back to the hotel, me and Joe went for a nice swim, we didn't quite realise the time, so we didn't get out till quite late, and after we had walked round looking for a restaurant for hours, we finally found a nice restaurant, me and Joe were nearly falling asleep at the table mind you! We got a taxi back to the hotel, and as soon as our heads hit the pillow, we were asleep! An overall good day J.
Michelle: What more can I add? We did eventually get a view of the mountains when the weather cleared in the afternoon, that is after we managed to drag Clara away from her retail therapy. And who would have thought we would get so excited by a food shop? But it is excellent although a bit on the expensive side - think M&S meets Waitrose meets Selfridges Food Hall!! And yes we couldn't find Cin Cin but the place we found (can't even remember it's name) was great.
