Well children, it's been a while since I've written about my ramblings, mainly because I'm lazy, but partially because this has been one the most intense and action-packed periods of my short life. The story picks up with me leaving Cairns and getting the bus down to Mission Beach, a small no-wheres-ville populated only by drunken backpackers and a strange number of strange kiwis. Along the way we stopped of at a crocodile farm, where we had the chance to hold a cute little fella (who had his mouth taped shut thankfully), as well as feeding some greedy kangaroos. The main attraction there were the 5 metre long crocs, really monsters, that were taken out the wild due to being 'socially difficult' (ie they'd attacked someone). The keepers didn't seem to care though, as the prodded them with sticks to make them do something other than just lie there, which is essentially all crocodiles do. Due to the Oz Experience buses only leaving so many times a week I found myself stuck in Mission Beach for four days. While there though, I managed to book up my next two weeks of activities of sailing and an island safari, details of which I'll bore you with later. I also managed to get a massive $20 discount by booking in a group. Score. I wasted time but sitting around reading, and quickly retreating under cover whenever one of the frequent tropical rain showers hit. Nights were spent drinking 'goon', cheap boxes of bad wine which contains, among other things, eggs and fish. It does the job though. I also ate some kangaroo, which was very good, a lot like steak. My mind flashed back briefly to the cute little joey I'd been feeding earlier that very day. A pang of guilt passed over my briefly, but then I took another bite a remembered how damn good it tasted. A great hangover cure was a day spent white water rafting along the Tully river. When I wasn't frantically paddling through turbulent water I got to sit back and look at the massive rainforest around me, all the while being on the look out for crocs. Everything in this country is out to get you. After surviving that ordeal I went out for St Paddy's night, which is apparently celebrated with drunken rowdiness the world over. The next day I had two friends from uni show up at the hostel, proving just what a small world it is once more, so we spent the night reminiscing about how easy student/traveling life is and how we never want to work. The next day I boarded the bus and moved on to my next adventure, which you'll be hearing about shortly.
