I have spent the last three days in Cairns. Cairns is the rainiest place I have ever been. Thats what you get for going to a rainforest. The three days have been spend largely uneventfully, mostly wandering around the small town centre and looking everywhere for the funnel web spider that will inevitably get me. It'll have to be particularly cunning to outwit me though.
The sheer amount of Japanese people and shops here is astounding - took me a while to absorb the fact that I wasn't in Tokyo any more. I did some diving - wasn't particularly exciting to be honest - a lot of dead coral everywhere and an idioting buddy who charged about after shadows. Anyway, I saw a small shark. It ran off in shame of its inadequacy. Also a curious cuttlefish followed me over the course of two dives.
The night life is good. I got to race a goldfish, which is difficult as they're not the brightest sorts. Mine was particularly stupid, losing in the first round. I disowned it in disgust. Anywho, I'm off to Mission Beach in the morning. I expect you all to sit in front of your computers awaiting the next exciting installment of my journeys.
