Well well well, where do I start?? Seems like I haven't written on here for ages! So I will start from where I left it last, Surfers Paradise...
After Surfers, I headed to a place called Harvey Bay, which is basically a small town with a port. The last two weeks or so I have tagged along with a group of 8 lads and one girl from Maidstone in Kent as they have been on the same bus as me and Carly every time and we all get along great. 10 of us all together means we can get our own massive dorm room everywhere we go and get cheaper rates too...
So anyways, Harvey Bay, quite a boring town, after a long old journey from Brisbane we all just had all you can eat pizza (just the 15 slices for me!) and watched a bit of telly and went to bed, all in preparation for an early start and an adventure on Fraser Island the next day!! We hired one massive 4wd jeep which carried 10 people and as there is only 3 people over 21 years old in our group, it meant I got to do lots of driving!! As you can see from the picture, the M4 motorway is a beach ha ha!!
Fraser Island is home to some of the most unique species in the world, we spent two nights camping, pitching up just off the beach and just outside a rainforest! For some who haven't camped before it was quite a learning curve and I kind of became the trek leader, sorted out timings etc to make sure we saw all the sights on the island in the time we had available...
There is an absolutely idyllic lake called Lake McKenzie, which was fresh water and the sand was exfoliating so we never needed to take a shower, there was the Champagne pools where a naturally created lagoon with waves theat made it look like champagne... Indian Head was a lookout point where we saw whales, sharks, dolphins, turtles, stingrays, you name it! And also got to see two F35 fighter jets scream passed while watching two whales play! The most awesome of nature combined with the most powerful man made machine!!
Sleeping in the tent was quite creepy, so many spiders, crabs, horse flies, snakes... but they weren't the worse, DINGOS!!!!!!! I woke up first every morning, and as I put my head out of the tent, 4 dingos (small dogs with similar characteristics to foxes, scavengers) were tucking into some left over food, i was straight back in that tent ha ha!! Then the following evening, we were all laid in a cirlce on the floor staring at the stars when a dingo crept up and nicked some ham out of the cooler box, but these animals can be dangerous and attack on a regular basis so it was quite risky but so much fun!! My weapon of choice was a frying pan and an axe!
After so much fun on Fraser Island, and so little sleep, we began a 10 hour journey to Kroombit cattle ranch!! Where I learned how to crack a whip, brand a goat with a hot iron, lassoo and generally be a cowboy, nothing like brokeback thank god!! then another early start and another long journey took me to where I am now, Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsundays islands... and a lie in this morning after a very heavy night on the sauce last night!!! I am hoping to take a day trip sailing to the islands this week and also sort out the rest of the trip, as I can't have these kent people taggin along with me all the way!!
Hope you're all well, I will put up pictures this afternoon, good luck proley with your Pcoy!
Love you all!!
