Today started a little later than most...due to the large G&T's consumed last night. We were booked on to a 13.30 bus to Pisco. After some brunch we headed via taxi to the bus station. You can imagine our surprise when the bus turned out to be a very luxurious double decker bus with reclining seats. Slightly into the journey the steward gave us a hot meal and a drink. Entertainment was a film followed by a game of bingo! prize was a bottle of Pisco.
Leaving Lima, we didn't really know what to expect however I think its fair to say that we were both surprised that upon leaving the city the landcape immediately became desert on the left hand side with coast line on the right. We drove past small dwellings, fields and field of yellow corn drying and also fisherman villages, we reached Pisco at five this afternoon. The bus dropped us and a few other people in the grounds of a hotel. We walked through the hotel and out on to the few steps leading down to the road. we were immediately approached through the railings by local touts from B&B's. Bizarrley enough there was someone to meet us from our hotel and we were soon on our way to the San Isidro Hotel. www.sanisidrohostel.com. This is a pleasant enough place with a TV in the room and a swimming pool. Free pool, table tennis and table football.
We are booked on a trip tomorrow morning to see the wildlife on the Ballestas Islands, followed by an afternoon exploring Pisco.
