This is a short blog entry- We are in Arequipa. a beautiful city in the Andes. We arrived yesterday morning after an overnight bus journey from Nazca. Arequipa is at about 2500 metres above sea level and the air is thin. Nazca.. We arrived yesterday and had decided to treat ourselves to a nice hotel, so we were well chuffed when our expectations were met for once..not only that but it was hot, hot enough to swim in the pool...if i had swimmers.. anyway the point of being here was to see the Nazca Lines. We are warm! ......This oasis is the best...... we have to most beautiful hotel with a room that over looks the swimming pool. A quick look around the morning that we arrived resulted in some of the most beautiful scenery i have ever seen. The Oasis has pedaloes / canoes and row boats for hire. Saturday morning, we had an early 0700am collection by bus to go into Paracas to visit the Ballestas islands. No time for breakfast and once again the winter woolies were required. We arrived at the port and waited in line to board the small speedboat. After about half hour and trying to avoid the active and very large pelicans that were running around by the jetty... we were advised that the port was actually closed.... Today started a little later than most...due to the large G&T's consumed last night. We were booked on to a 13.30 bus to Pisco. After some brunch we headed via taxi to the bus station. You can imagine our surprise when the bus turned out to be a very luxurious double decker bus with reclining seats. Slightly into the journey the steward gave us a hot meal and a drink. Entertainment was a film followed by a game of bingo! prize was a bottle of Pisco. Leaving...
