Never did I think I would feel at ease when surrounded by alligators but by the end of our incredible 3 day trip in the Amazon, I was quite frankly bored of the things. At first they were a bit on the scary side...on the first night we went alligator watching where we were each given a flash light to shine into the pitch black water and when you shone your touch at a gator all you could see were their orange eyes! And they were everywhere so a tad creepy. We spent most of the time looking up at the stars in an attempt to distract ourselves from our neighbouring friends, but we were all quick to shine the flash light in the direction of any suspicious noises that seemed too close for comfort. We had a great guide - who we nicknamed Mogley due to his resemblance to the Jungle Book character - who looked after us and took us for sunrises over the jungle, anaconda hunting, piranha fishing (I was the only one not to catch one) and swimming with pink, fresh water dolphins (turns out there are dolphins in the Amazon after all hey Bec!) This was great fun apart from the swampiness of the water and the fact that many gators wanted to join in the fun. We met a couple of like minded Brits who shared our passion for food, deet, grande rats (not their real name but see below for why we appointed them this title) and of course Mogley. On arriving back in Rurrenabaque, we reunited with our pals for an amazing fish dinner and our first caiprinha of the holiday to celebrate Bex´s birthday.
