So when Bolivians say the bus leaves at 11am, they mean 1.30pm and when they tell you it takes 17 hours, they actually meant 22. We knew from the outset this was not going to be the journey of dreams. And it was far from it. Inconveniences included extreme fog (to the extent I'm sure the driver could not see the road, never good when you are driving on the edge of a mountain) a top speed of 20mph and excess cargo that not only delayed the departure time, slowed us down but also made the bus severly unstable which did not aid the excess tilting we seemed to experience). Fellow Matile´s should picture one of dads ´fun´ cliff side holiday expeditions only 12 times as long, a lot more sweaty/smelly and accompanied by a herd of screaming Bolivian children. That said we arrived safely in Rurrenabaque - from where we were taking our Amazin tour- meaning after 5 days, 3 night buses and 1 trek, we finally shower. And it was glorious. We also had our first experience of South American crime in Rurrenabaque. As we were returning from the popular ''moskitto bar" a guy on the back of a motorcycle tried to snatch Becky´s clutch bag (which we also now realise is an inappropriate South American accessory). However, Becky had a good grip on her bag and so managed to fight off the robber and retained all of her belongings. I, meanwhile was completely obvious to the whole affair, thinking Becs just had her bag caught on a passing vehicle. Great mate. Bolivian criminals 0, Girls on tour 1.
