Happy Halloween to everyone who celebrates it and steals candy from houses!!
So today went faster than some other days, which I guess is good. Woke up from a really depressing dream (won't bore you with the details) but the kids cheered me up at breakfast. Then there all went off to school, and I decided to wander into Thamel. So I took the bus, which this time only cost 25rps yay!! However, the driver was the fastest and angriest driver I have ever ever seen in my life!! He was a millimetre away from knocking over a motorbiker!! Managed to find my way through dusty and busy streets, and headed straight for Pilgrims Book Shop (or Book House...) if you didn't know, the huge original store was burnt to the ground in May this year, caused by a fire from the next-door restaurant. But they found a place and they've set up quite happily. I bought 4 colouring books - one for Parmisha, 2 for me, and one for possibly Ayog. Also, some colouring pencils, and a sketch pad for Muna, who is a VERY good artist!! She said she came across drawing etc by accident - she couldn't dance because of her leg (she was born with a deformed/bent foot and has had lots of operations and now looks completely normal, you wouldn't think anything was wrong!!), so instead of dancing she went to the art class, and found she was good!!
After Pilgrim's I went and sat in the momo place called Yang Lings or something... The place I went to last time :) I felt super local not even reading the menu to say what I wanted haha!! Even though I've only been there once before. Liam my dear, I shall treat you to your first meal in Nepal. It won't be from any hotel or fancy restaurant, it'll be at this place. A plate of momos and a banana lassi. Just what your first meal in Nepal should be!!
I then wandered round for a bit more, still limping due to the fall yesterday, and picked up 3 rolls of toilet paper. Going to be needing those!! Hopefully I don't run out now, not planning to go back into Thamel until I leave, and I didn't notice any toilet paper for sale up in Thali which is a shame.
I shall now give you 2 examples of my bargaining skills:
1. Found the most gorgeous pashmina scarf, and the lady was asking 1000rps for it, so I asked if I could get it down to 600 and she said 900. I then started to walk away, and she suddenly said "okay, 500". Awhhh yeahhhh!!!!
2. Trying to find a taxi back to DNC, I called in the first one I saw. Now apparently you can get a taxi for 500rps, but that hasn't been the case so far. They're all asking around 600 or 700. But this guy asked me for 1500!!!!!! So I immediately said no, looking shocked, and he asked me how much, and I said 600, which is what most other taxi drivers will take. He said 100, and I walked away. He then beeped his horn and ran after me down the street, and said "okay sister, 700" and I figured that was okay. However, like the bus this morning, this driver was so angry and seemed to be in a rush somewhere. I had to grip the seat!! So close to crashing several times!! And he was violent with his horn, tooting at every possible moment with the loudest and most irritating horn I've ever heard!! He was rude, but at least I got back to DNC alive!!
I got back round 1ish, and gave Parmisha her colouring book, then sat down with her to do some colouring. It's quite therapeutic!! We coloured for hours!! Until the other kids got back from school, then I sat and did homework with them instead, until rice time (they still give me so much!!), then my routine of escaping upstairs!!
The internet is still down, but they promised to get it sorted by tomorrow. That's what they said last week. Oh well!! I've got my ways of getting internet so I'm happy!!
