Today we have decided to have an easier day as we have been flat out for days now. So we got up and headed into Lithgow to check out the 'Lithgow Blast Furnace' ruins. It is the building of the one of the first blast furnaces in Australia, opened in 1907. It produced steel and iron. The ruins were amazing, so statuesque and told a story by themselves. I took a lot of cool photos, trying to work on my photography skills with the Nikon!!! We only stopped here for 20 mins or so then headed off to Hassans Lookout.
Hassans lookout was breath taking. We walked down to the edge of the cliff and got some really cool pics. Boo has been practicising her photography with the little pentax camera, she has done some really great shots!!!! Very proud of herself. Will make an album up soon of some of the sites we have seen. One thing at Hassans lookout, it was bloody freezing!!! Everyones noses were dripping by the end of our short walk around here.
From here we made our way out to the other side of Lithgow to the ZigZag Railway. We were looking forward to this old steam train trip, totally disappointed. We arrived to find that the steam train didnt operate on this day, instead we had an old, but less rustic diesal train. Also the tour took us on a few walks that in the end made us feel as if we did more walking than having a ride on the train. Would have been better if we had a better tour guide, he stuttered heaps and couldnt understand him. At the end of the tour, Marty and l just caught on that he had been speaking about a runaway train that went off the cliff for most of the tour. Still the sites we saw were cool, the girls loved it, but were cold when we had to keep getting off the train. After this, we headed back to camp to pack up and for me to have a lie down as wasnt feeling so well. Think we have been all passing on a little viral thing to each other, Marty yet to score it though. One more nights sleep and off to Tamworth tomorrow for a night.
