Arrived at Lithgow, a town in the Blue Mountains, around 1pm which was great as we were only on the road for about 3 hours. We went to our camp site at Lake Lyall, about 10 mins out of Lithgow. This camp site is cheap at $20/night for a powered site and we were situated with lake views. The toilet and shower blocks were up a hill about 200-300 metres away, which might prove interesting at night with the girls.
We got set up and decided to take a drive into Lithgow to look around. We went to the info centre and booked a couple of things for the days ahead, "Jenolan Caves" and "ZigZag Railway".
We then took a drive around town and saw a sign to head out to the Glow Worm Tunnel. We thought this might fill in an hour before heading back to the campsite, boy did we under estimate things.
It took about a 45 minute drive on a windy, dirt and corrigated track through the forest. When we got there it took a further 15 mins of easy going bushwalking. Once again Meg had to be carried up on Marty's shoulders. Boo had been a bit under weather with fevers and a tummy ache, but after nurofen she improved and did the walk no problems. When we got to the tunnel we walked in about 100m, turned off our torches and there they were, all lite up. I expected them to be the size of the worms out of the garden, but they were about 1 cm long and their eyes were the only thing that glowed. The girls thought it was cool, both the worms and the tunnel. It was an effort to dodge the water in the tunnel from the stream, but no-one got too wet, just Boo!!!
By the time we got back to the car, around 5pm, the sun was almost setting. We did the drive and got back to the campsite at 6:15pm. Had a quick tea and retired for the night early as it had been a long day and we have a big day planned tomorrow at the "Jenolan Caves". All in all, not as cold as we thought and really pretty landscape around.
