Had a great night sleep except for Boo needing to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, saw some kangaroo's on our walk to the toilet though. Also the caravan on a slight lean so that you feel a bit head first, but not too bad. Electric blankets and heater did there work well.
We headed off in the direction of Bathurst because my husband just cannot not go there and see what the fuss is all about. We got there mid morning and took some happy snaps, one of the most hilarious ones was Marty's Patrol on the grid lined up at the starting line. Did a few laps, mostly at 60km an hour as this was the speed limit to Marty's disappointment. Bathurst city center is gorgeous with its old style buildings and churches.
After a quick look around Bathurst we headed off to Jenolan to do the Jenolan Caves. These are a formation of limestone caves in the town of Jenolan and are meant to be a must see of the Blue Mountains attractions. We got to the Jenolan Caves at lunchtime and had our usual car picnic of sandwiches and yoghurt!!! We started our walk down to the caves thinking it would be a quick 5 min walk, OMG it took a good 20 mins all steep downhill, and my only thought was how was poor Boo gonna do this on the way back after our cave tour!!!! We got to the bottom and there are a few old grand buildings like a challet. We decided to do the "Lucas Cave Tour" as this is the most visited cave and is home to the most photographed limestone formation at Jenolan, the Broken Column. It also has the widest chambers plus a glimpse of a pure underground river. The highest chamber is the 'Cathedral' at 54 metres and this is the scene for many weddings and underground concerts, and is the chamber with the bese acoustics of any performance in the world apparantly. The Lucas Cave was spectacular and the girls did a great job with the 914 steps, even Meg did alot of the walking this time. After an hour and a half the grils were starting to get over it and we finished the tour with the dreaded walk up the step hill to the car park. Poor Boo cried most of the way with needing several stops for a rest. We finally got up the hill and headed off to see Kanangra Walls lookout.
It was a small walk compared to the last and the girls did well. We walked a 200 metre walk thru the national forest when we got to the cliff lookout of Kanagra Walls (this is the blog picture with Boo). It was breath taking, and a little scary, seeing we had the girls with us and looking down the UNFENCED cliff face to a deadly drop if they misfooted at all. The overlooking mountains were covered in foggy mist and the cliff faces were unbelievable. It was definately worth a look and if anyone visits you must go there for a look.
After the Kanangra Walls lookout we took the long drive home to Lake Lyall thru Oberon and got home late again, at night fall, around 6:30pm. We arrived home to see the kangaroo's around the camping grounds, one which was pretty big. We were all knackered and had soup and toast for tea. There is absolutely no reception (internet or television) where we are so Marty and l are stuck with watching a few old movie favs off the hard drive for the next few nights.
