Much anticipation for today!!!! We are off to Katoomba to go to "Scenic World" to get a good look at the 'Three Sisters'. Thought would be a hour drive as only 34km, well it took 45 mins to an hour!!! Bloody hilly and windy roads ey.
Was pretty foggy, misty and slight drizzle of rain when we were driving and got to Scenic World. Thought this was ok and would rise pretty early like the other days. Boy were we wrong!!!
Anyhow, got an all day pass which cost $90 a family, this allowed us unlimited rides of the railway, skyway, cableway and walkway. First stop, as chosen by the girls, was the railway.
The railway is the steepist decending rail in the world. Had a look on the way down and it was 54o descent. Pretty cool, we were virtually lying flat when going down. The girls, and the big kids, loved it!!! We got down to the walkway, which is a short walk thru the forest canopy floor. It was lightly raining but that wasnt worrying us. The forest was amazing. There were thick vines, tall trees and a dense canopy at the bottom. There was heaps of informative plaques about the old coal mining system which was there back in the day. We got to the end of the walk and got to the cableway. This is a cabled ride across the top of the forest. I was excited as this is meant to be the first glimpse of the 'Three Sisters' and the waterfall!!! Bloody mist and fog, couldnt see two foot in front of you led alone the major sites!! Oh well, got to the end of the ride headed up to the skyway. This is also a cable ride but at the top across the gorge overlooking a waterfall and three sisters. Now was excited, thought got to see something seeing up higher. Bloody blondes hey!!! If mist is below it will be higher also, yes l am an idiot lol!!! Couldnt see one foot in front of you this time.
All the tour guides were great and l felt sorry for them as they knew everyone was disappointed not being able to see anything they came to see. They were so nice and tried to make things fun anyhow.
We all continued on our circular way doing all three rides over and over again hoping we would catch a glimpse of anything, and at 3pm decided on the skyway that this was the last ride and we would call it a day. Then, from nowhere, the misty fog disappeared and we could see the 'Three Sisters' and the waterfall!!! I took at least 100 photos instantly in excitement as was afraid the mist would reappear at any moment. The whole place came alive, people excited, tour guides grateful that some people would get a great day after all!!! We stayed on the skyway continuously for about 4 trips over and back, with Max, our tour guide not even asking us if we were hoping off. We then hoped off and went on the cableway for a further 4 or 5 trips back and forth, grabing happy snaps along the way. The 'Three Sisters" are so glorious to look at, and with all the mist around the view was extra ordinary. There was a double rainbow across the gorge which was spectacular. Our tour guide on the cableway, Mark, was so excited when we boarded as he had seen us being so patient and also cheery anyhow during the day even though we hadnt seen a thing, except mist!!! We then decided at 4pm to go on one last ride of the railway and the tour guides there were so excited that we had seen the views and were so impressed at how we stuck it out all day. When we got back up from the last ride, we arrived to two of the tour guides, one being Mark, holding a koala and kangaroo teddy for the girls. We were so impressed, as they said they were with our girls and how good they were during the day. It totally made our day, as at the start and in the middle l was getting very frustrated, but by the end l was in total happiness and so thankful that we stuck it out. All the people who work at the 'Scenic World' are fabulous and you can totally tell they love working there and what the place is about. Definatley worth a visit if you come here, if not to meet these lovely people.
After a long day we headed down in the car to Echo Point for a few last pics of the Three Sisters and then headed home. Again we got home late, all b*****ed. Was a cooler night than the others as Marty and l thought the heater had broken, it hadnt, it just couldnt keep up with the cold. Two nights down, two to go.

Thought would add in the story of the 'Three Sisters' if anyone interested, l found it fascinating:
The Aboriginal dream-time legend has it that three sisters, 'Meehni', 'Wimlah' and Gunnedoo' lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe.
These beautiful young ladies had fallen in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe, yet tribal law forbade them to marry.
The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to use force to capture the three sisters causing a major tribal battle.
As the lives of the three sisters were seriously in danger, a witchdoctor from the Katoomba tribe took it upon himself to turn the three sisters into stone to protect them from any harm. While he had intended to reverse the spell when the battle was over, the witchdoctor himself was killed. As only he could reverse the spell to return the ladies to their former beauty, the sisters remain in their magnificent rock formation as a reminder of this battle for generations to come.
**Told you it was a great story**** Bell XXXXX
