This has been quite the journey. We truely are living amongst the Maharajahs. Our accomodations have been incredible; each place truely unique. A few places I have had problems finding my room as sometimes its a bit of maze. Today I awoke to the sound of "Call to Pray" I did not check the time but it must have been around 4 or 5 in the morning. No worries - the sounds of the city will sooner or later waken one up - the constant hum of traffic and honking of horns. In the country its the hum of mozzies and the darn flocks of birds, roosters and what nots. The other night there was a frog in the bathroom that I kindly showed the door - then a small lizzard (gecko?) was on the bathroom window - they eat bugs right? Lets go with that - I decided it was safe. While I lay in bed and Judy snoring away - I heard a russling in the bathroom - better just cover my head and pretend nothing is wondering through Judy's open cosmetic bag.
The food here is very heavy and wearing thin (but not on my butt). For breakfast its the usual masala omlette & crusty white bread, ceral, fruit juice - the same pretty much everywhere. For lunch - buffet - rice, dalh, veggies - the meatless chicken (its getting better the further in the trip - more meat less bone) - Dinner almost the same. Rachna grew up in India until she was 14 so a few of us rely on her to help us order from the menu so we don't buffet it all the time. Me and few others have gone vegetarian - the animals that are free to roam in the city and villages eat cardboard and plastic so we opt for veggies - I don't think these animals end up on the table as there is no beef or pork dishes that we have come across. (lends to a new meaning of free range) I would have expected the food to be flavorful and spicy - its not which has been a disappointment - but on the good side none of us have come down with Delhi belly - knock on wood.
Internet has been fun. A few remote villages we stayed at internet at the hotel but the power would go off and on in the evening, other hotels it just would not work and no one knew how to restart. Here is okay but did have a bit of blip yesterday - the group is off at the fort across the road - I was not feeling so hot and went for a lay down. Its a beautiful sunny day so hopefully I can catch up with the group when they come back. Tomorrow we are off to Mandawa - a desert resort where we stay in mud huts. The group is getting tired of the forts, palaces and villages - its same but different - some of the women are going through shopping withdrawals - I do have to admit it has not been the greatest as we stay in fairly remote places.
One more week - hard to believe its been two weeks so far - looking forward to some heathly eating and good exercise despite the cold you have been telling me about.
Take care my friends,
Maria
PS - so my spelling is not the best - its hard on these keyboards - they stick - thats my excuse and I am sticking to it :-)
