Friday September 3rd
Not the best start in the world! Got to the airport to find that our flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. You wouldn't of thought that would of been much of a problem and indeed neither did we but it meant we would miss our connecting flight. This meant having to get on three flights, London to Doha - Doha to Dubai - Dubai to Nairobi. Still up beat and excited we boarded the plane for a 7 hour flight to Doha.
Landed safely in Doha and we were ushered, with the other connecting passengers to a tiny waiting area. There we all waited while they took our passports off to sort our new connecting flights, which we weren't happy about, but everyone did it! As TJ snoozed away on my shoulder a Qatar representative came and told a group connecting to Lagos that there bags were not able to go with them! They were not happy I can tell you!
When TJ woke up we were both thankful that we weren't in the same boat. We flew out to Dubai and had a short wait until we boarded another plane for a 5 hour flight to Nairobi.
That's when all the trouble started. We were always a little worried about our bags considering how many flights we had to get, but that was doubled once we heard what was happening to the other group. So there we sat waiting... Sure enough no bags what so ever... Safari starts at 8am and our bags are a 5 hour flight away! We weren't happy at all, and no apology or warning that it would happen!
After an hours wait sorting the mess out we eventually left the airport nervous as to what to do next. Immediately we were greeting by the smiling face of our tour guide. We apologised for the delaying him for an hour and got the response 'poli poli' - 'slowly slowly'. Akuna matata!
Nairobi is such an interesting place, very developed considering and all the people are amazingly friendly. We arrived at our hotel, the Kenya comfort. It was very basic but incredibly clean and tidy with no insects what so ever. We had a nice warm shower to wash away the 24 hours of travelling and crashed out almost immediately for some much needed sleep!
