The last 2 days have been very busy. Yesterday we drove the short distance from Stirling in Scotland to Carlisle in England. Before leaving Scotland we visited the site of the battle of Bannockburn where the Scots under Robert the Bruce won their independence over King Edward the second of England. The whole exhibition here is very good. 3D technology is used to bring the whole thing to life. We participated in a battle game where we were able to change the course of history and get England the win. It's a game of strategy where you command a couple of units and make decisions quickly which may impact on the result. I think Connor and Jono would love this!!
Following that we drove to Carlisle. We had to change hotels due to a number of issues however the change we made was good. On arrival we went to the hotel bar to watch the FA Cup with the locals. It was a lively afternoon session which we thoroughly enjoyed. After the football we had dinner then off to bed!
This morning we were up early for the drive to Chester. We arrived prior to lunch and took a walking tour of the city. Very pretty - except it was 20 degrees and there were far too many pasty skinned middle aged men without their shirts on in the noon day sun! After a few hours of walking it was back to the car for a trip to Mold in Wales to see our Niece and Nephew Kathy and Stuart Bishop and their son Sebastian. We had a great day catching up with them after a number of years. After dinner it was back to Chester to pack and get ready for our final day in the UK tomorrow. We head back to London via Stratford upon Avon and Ruth gets her Shakespeare on for the afternoon. Should be some fun before having to return my Audi A5 to Hertz :(.
On Tuesday we head for France to see the grave of Marks great uncle who was killed in action on the Somme in 1916 and 5 days in Paris to soak up the lifestyles of our favourite city in the world.
We are nearly halfway into the holiday and having a brilliant time. Might have to send an email to our bosses to ask for an extension!
