We started from Chester fairly early today to head back to London via Stratford upon Avon the town of William Shakespeare . It has long been a place that Ruth has wanted to see so I wanted to make sure we had plenty of time to wander through it. Our time in Chester was a short one but we packed a big day in there and really enjoyed the stay - anyone heading there should know that the Chester House Guest House B&B is the best!!
By the time we negotiated narrow country roads and the motorway we arrived in Stratford about 3 hours later and started wandering immediately. We caught the hop on/off bus (as you do) and saw many of the sights that are well known along with a few little gems. The town itself is very pretty. The local inhabitant who was sunning himself in the public gardens was not as pretty haha. After our walking and bus tour we had a late lunch (fish n chips) at the pub then slowly made our way back to the car to get back to London. Ruth said that this trip has shown her many wonderful places and people but rates Stratford and Edinburgh as her favourite places.
Time to say goodbye to the Audi once back in London and our last night in England (for this trip anyway). Tomorrow we are on the Eurostar to Lille in Northern France. We get a car for a couple of days so tomorrow night we stay in Arras before visiting some World War 1 battlefields and a little War Cemetary in the village of Marouiel where I get to visit the grave of my great uncle William James Ward. I'm sure this may get emotional as I get to pay tribute to this young mans life and sacrifice 98 years ago. Ill blog about that later though.
Having just completed 2 weeks in England, Scotland and Wales it's a bit sad to be leaving, we have really enjoyed everything we have done and seen. From being an Aussie at Lords Cricket Ground to looking for the mystical Nessie at Loch Ness and catching up with family in Wales this has been a highlight full trip! My mum would say I have been channeling my inner Englishman and she may be right! All I know is we will be back to do it all again!
Look out France - your turn for a week now!! 'Allo 'Allo!!!
