Today we headed out of Edinburgh bound for Loch Ness. Once again another cool day that got a bit windier and colder the more north we went.
Our first stop was a small village called Blair Atholl which also is the location of Blair Castle. Ruth has family connections to the Blair Clan, however we are not sure if this area is part of that but we will be investigating it further. The Castle is magnificent, set on beautiful gardens, set just off the road and with views of the snow capped mountains of the Scottish Highlands. The whole area is typically British - narrow roads, green country etc - very pretty. After some time there we headed off to Inverness and Drumnadrochit (say that after a wee dram of scotch or 3) - right on the banks of Loch Ness. We went to one of the most famous ruins in Scotland - Urquhart Castle, which is just down the road from the hotel. If you ever get here make sure you see this place and see history!
On our return to the hotel, a film crew from the US History Channel was setting up to film an interview with an old guy whose father had seen the famous monster Nessie many years ago. Keep an eye on the interview you may just see us in the background.
Tomorrow we are heading to Stirling - going to get my William Wallace on lol. Should be a full on day or so there as we explore a famous chapter in Scottish history!
